Do you already sell on Facebook or Instagram, or do you have a product you want to sell all over Tunisia? An online store lets you take orders day and night, without answering every “price please” message. This guide shows you, step by step, how to create an online store in Tunisia in 2026: choosing the platform, the design, payment, shipping, the rules to follow and the launch.
The steps at a glance
Here is the full path, from the idea to the first order:
- Plan your project: your products, your customers, your prices and your photos.
- Get your business in order: a simple status like auto-entrepreneur is enough to start.
- Choose the platform: Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom-built ecommerce website.
- Pick a domain name and set your brand identity.
- Create a design that builds trust, made for phones first.
- Add your products with good photos and clear product pages.
- Set up payment, starting with cash on delivery.
- Organize shipping with clear fees.
- Add the must-have pages: shipping, returns, contact.
- Launch the store and find your first customers.
For a small store, plan on 2 to 3 weeks from the first call to going live, as long as your photos and texts are ready.
Plan your project before picking a tool
The platform is not the first question. First, take an hour to answer these:
- What do you sell, and how many products? 15 products and 500 products are not the same amount of work.
- Who do you sell to? Customers in Tunis, all over Tunisia, or abroad too?
- What is your margin? Count shipping, packaging, returns and ads. A product sold for 40 DT with 8 DT of shipping and 10% returns does not earn what you think.
- Do you have good photos? They sell more than anything else online, and they are often what slows a project down.
- Who will handle the orders? Confirming, packing and handing parcels to the courier takes time every day.
Selling online legally in Tunisia
To sell online on a regular basis, your business must be registered. The good news: getting started is simpler than you might think.
- The auto-entrepreneur status is made for small businesses, online stores included. It is open to individuals, with a capped yearly turnover (75,000 DT a year in 2026), a registration with the National Register of Enterprises (RNE) and a simple tax based on what you sell.
- A company (SUARL, SARL) becomes useful when the business grows, when there are several of you or when you want to work with large clients.
Once registered, you get a tax ID. You will also need it to open an account with an online payment provider or a delivery partner.
Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom ecommerce website?
This is the big question. All three work in Tunisia, but they suit different projects.
| Shopify | WooCommerce | Custom ecommerce website | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Most small and medium stores | People who already run a WordPress site | Very specific needs |
| Upfront cost | Medium | Low to medium | High |
| Monthly costs | Shopify plan | Hosting, paid plugins | Hosting, maintenance |
| Security and updates | Handled by Shopify | Your job | The developer’s job |
| Managing from your phone | Very easy, with the app | Possible, less handy | Depends on what was built |
| Time to launch | 2 to 3 weeks | 3 to 6 weeks | Several months |
Shopify: the simplest choice for most stores
Shopify takes care of everything technical: hosting, security, updates and speed. You add your products and follow your orders from the app on your phone. Cash on delivery is built in, and the Meta Pixel is easy to set up for your ads.
Its two weak points in Tunisia are well known: the plan is paid monthly in dollars with an international card, and online card payments need an outside provider. At ABSoft, we pay the plan for you and you pay us in dinars: TND 150 a month.
WooCommerce: cheaper to start, more work later
WooCommerce is a free WordPress plugin. It costs less to start and many Tunisian payment providers support it well. In return, you are in charge of hosting, updates, backups and security. A plugin left out of date can break the store or open it to hackers, often at the worst moment.
Custom-built: for projects that don’t fit the mold
An ecommerce website built from scratch makes sense when your project fits no box: a marketplace with several sellers, a link to your stock or point-of-sale software, online quotes, a reseller area… The price and timeline are higher, but the store does exactly what you need. At ABSoft, these projects are built as a custom web app, quoted one by one.
Domain name and brand identity
Your domain name is your store’s address: your-brand.tn or your-brand.com. A .tn reassures Tunisian customers, a .com is handy if you also sell abroad. Pick a short name that is easy to say on the phone, without hyphens if you can.
Before the design, also gather what makes your brand: your logo, two or three colors and the tone of your messages (formal or friendly, French, Arabic or both). They are what will keep your store from looking like all the others.
A custom design that builds trust
In Tunisia, many shoppers are still wary of buying online. Your store has to reassure them from the very first second. That is the whole job of the design.
Think phone first
Most of your visitors arrive on their phone, often from a Facebook or Instagram ad. The store must load fast, even on an average 4G connection, and every button must be easy to tap with a thumb.
A theme that looks like you, not a template with your logo
A free theme used as is gives you a store that looks like thousands of others. A custom design starts from your products and your customers: the colors, the photos, the order of the sections and the texts are chosen for them. At ABSoft, you approve your store’s mockup before it is built.
The details that reassure
- A phone number and a WhatsApp button that are always visible.
- Shipping fees and times shown on every product page, before the cart.
- “Cash on delivery” clearly in view.
- A clear returns page: what customers can send back, and how.
- Customer reviews and real photos as soon as you have them.
Product pages that sell
The product page does the job of a salesperson in a shop. Take care of it.
- Photos: a clean background, good light, several angles, the product worn or in use. A recent phone and light from a window are enough to start.
- Title: simple and precise, with the words your customers search for. “Long linen dress, beige” beats “Yasmine model”.
- Description: sizes, materials, care, what comes in the parcel. Answer questions before people ask them.
- Variants: sizes and colors on a single page, with stock kept up to date so you never sell what you no longer have.
- Price: clear, in dinars, with shipping shown right below it.
Payment: cash on delivery first, online later
In Tunisia, most online orders are still paid cash on delivery. So it is the first payment method to turn on. Shopify has it built in.
Confirm every order
Cash on delivery has one flaw: some customers order and then refuse the parcel. To cut these returns, confirm each order with a call or a WhatsApp message before shipping it. You check the address, the size and the phone number, and the customer feels committed.
Adding online payment
As your sales grow, you can add card or mobile wallet payments. Several Tunisian providers exist, such as Konnect, Flouci, Paymee, ClicToPay or D17. Their fees, payout times and Shopify support are not the same, so we look together at the one that suits your store. Customers who pay online also send back their parcels less often.
Shipping: a good partner and clear fees
Shipping often wins or loses a customer. There are several options in Tunisia: companies like Aramex or Rapid-Poste from La Poste Tunisienne, and many local delivery companies built for ecommerce, which collect the cash for you and pay it back.
To choose well, compare:
- The price per parcel: often under 10 DT, depending on the company and the city.
- The delivery time: 24 to 72 hours in general, longer for remote regions.
- The payout: how many days until the cash collected reaches your account.
- Returns: what a refused parcel costs you.
- Tracking: a link or a text message so customers know where their parcel is.
Then show simple fees on the store: one fixed price for all of Tunisia, or free shipping above a set amount. Fees that only show up at the last step make customers leave.
The must-have pages
Besides the home page and the products, your store needs:
- Shipping: areas, times and prices.
- Returns and exchanges: the conditions and the steps to follow.
- Contact: phone, WhatsApp, email and an address if you have one.
- Terms of sale: your store’s rules, in black and white.
- Privacy: what you do with your customers’ data. Meta also asks for it if you set up the Pixel for your ads.
These pages reassure customers, prevent disputes and show Google that your store is serious.
Launching your store and finding your first customers
Before going live
Place a few test orders yourself from your phone: add to cart, check out, check the emails and the shipping fees. Ask two or three people close to you to do the same and note everything that trips them up.
Bringing in visitors
- Your social media: add the store link to your Instagram bio and your Facebook page, and put product links in your posts.
- Facebook and Instagram ads: with the Meta Pixel set up, your ads learn who buys and find more people like them. Start with a small budget, then spend more on what works.
- Google: a good title and description on every page, a sitemap sent to Google Search Console, and well-written product pages. Results take a few months, but they are free.
- WhatsApp: a button on the store and a WhatsApp Business catalog to answer questions fast.
How much does an online store cost in Tunisia?
The price depends mostly on the number of products, the design and the features. At ABSoft, a Shopify store starts at TND 1,400, with a theme customized to your brand, up to 20 first products added, cash on delivery set up and the Meta Pixel installed. Add the Shopify plan, TND 150 a month, paid in dinars.

Do it yourself or get help?
You can absolutely build your store on your own: Shopify is made for that. If you have time, an eye for design and want to learn, go for it.
Getting help makes sense if you want to:
- Move fast: a store ready in 2 to 3 weeks, without spending your evenings in the settings.
- Get a design that looks like you and builds trust, not a basic theme.
- Avoid the mistakes that cost sales: a store that is slow on phones, hidden fees, a badly set up Pixel, a domain that is not in your name.
- Learn to run it yourself: at ABSoft, a handover session is included. You leave knowing how to add a product and handle an order.
Send us your products, your city and your launch date: we reply within one business day with a fixed quote. You can also write to us directly.
